The house reflects the bleakness of Robert's life. The rooms are largely unfurnished, with no shelves or cabinets, no curtains or carpets. Somewhere, an overturned garden chair lies next to a dried-out houseplant. The living room's light source is an ancient tube television sitting on the floor. And although nothing of value remains in the villa, Stern has protected it with the latest security systems. Not out of fear of burglars, but because he wants to prevent anyone from looking behind his facade at all costs.
