Psychopathy refers to a personality pattern characterized by marked emotional flatness (lack of remorse, empathy, and guilt), antisocial behavior, pathological lying, manipulative skills, and callous indifference toward others. Clinically, psychopathy is assessed using the Hare Psychopathy Checklist and is closely related to antisocial personality disorder, though it is considered a distinct construct. Important: Psychopathy does not automatically imply violence. According to estimates, 4–5% of leadership positions in business and politics are held by people with psychopathic traits—their social skills, charm, and willingness to take risks facilitate career success. As a literary figure, the psychopath is the most fascinating antagonist: he understands social rules intellectually but does not feel them. He can lie while crying, threaten with charm, and kill with compassion. The menace arises not from irrationality, but from cool, instrumental rationality without a moral anchor.
