WARNING: SOMETHING NEW IS COMING. AND IT IS… WELL… DIFFERENT!

Attentive readers might have already noticed from the cover: „The First Last Day“ is somewhat different in content from the books my name is usually associated with.
When I was asked to contribute a guest article for Droemer/Knaur's 175th anniversary, I had actually thought of a short story. While writing „The First Last Day,“ two things quickly became clear to me: 1. That the story would be a bit longer after all. 2. That at a time when we are all living in a real-time thriller anyway, I felt more like writing something that would make you laugh once in a while. Okay, maybe some of you also told me a bit too often that I should write something in the style of my acknowledgments as a novel. And so, immediately after my perhaps darkest work „The Way Home,“ came what is possibly the brightest.

Table of contents:

„Livius Reimer sets off from Munich for Berlin to save his marriage. When his flight is canceled, he has to share the only available rental car with a young woman he would otherwise have avoided like the plague. Too quirky, too loud, too unusual – with her unconventional view of the world, Lea von Armin overwhelms Livius from the very first second. Shortly after they depart, Livius finds himself drawn into an unusual thought experiment by Lea – and has no idea that it's not just their road trip that's taking a completely new turn, but his entire life!“

When I submitted the first draft to the publisher, I fully expected to receive a brief reply email from the editorial department: „Yes, nice and all, but where are the dead bodies?“ However, to my surprise, I received very moving and positive feedback from all the advance readers so far (yes, the book also touches the heart), which reinforced my belief that it is – at least for me – exactly the right book at the right time. And so, „The First Last Day“ will be a little different starting April 28th.
For all of you who are now wondering, „That's all well and good, but when will we finally hear about axe murderers again?“ I'm happy to report that I'm already back at work on it.
