The 38-year-old writer from Berlin was once celebrated for his debut „Die Blutschule“ (The Blood School). Before that, he had a career as a professional light heavyweight boxer (ended by a knee injury) and several years as a court reporter for the radio. Now, his writing career seems to be over as well; his recent novels didn't do well, and he's not making progress with his current thriller. The family lives off the money of his wife, a pilot. What describes Max's character well is that for his wife's anniversary, he goes to great lengths to find a brand of chips that is no longer available, which reminds her of their first date, even though divorce is already being considered. And of all people, this lovable, empathic character, whom many suspect of having a savior complex, is supposed to have been identified by „Joshua“ as someone who will commit a terrible crime?
