Official Press Release:

Viktor Crime Award 2022 Shortlist Announced:

Marc Hofmann, Henri Faber, and Stuart Turton

Unna. Following an intensive discussion at the end of August in Unna, the jury, headed by bestselling author and prize donor Sebastian Fitzek, has shortlisted three authors for the Viktor Crime Award 2022. The decision was unanimous. Consequently, this year's choice falls upon Henri Faber, a new thriller author with Austrian roots, on Marc Hofmann, a German teacher and cabaret artist, as well as on Stuart Turton, a British author who is already successful in England.

The recipient of the prize will be announced on November 11th at an event in Unna as part of Europe's largest crime festival „Mord am Hellweg,“ following the Oscar principle. During the event, all three authors will present themselves to the audience. The award honors a new voice in thriller and crime literature that is on the verge of greater recognition, is already achieving it, or, according to the jury's judgment, has the potential for greater (including international) success. At the end of the event, the winner, selected by the jury and awarded the prize money of 6,666 Euros, will be crowned by Sebastian Fitzek. Advance ticket sales for the award ceremony have already begun.

The jury consists of Sebastian Fitzek (thriller author, prize donor; Berlin), Regine Weisbrod (freelance editor; Konstanz), Margarete von Schwarzkopf (journalist for WDR, NDR, DF, among others; Cologne), Elisabeth Herrmann (crime author; Berlin), and Monika Kramp (bookseller, Lesezeichen bookstore; Hillesheim).

The Viktor Crime Award has been presented since 2018 as part of the „Mord am Hellweg“ (Murder on the Hellweg) biennale. From the outset, it has been important to the festival organizers to invite established crime fiction stars to the Hellweg region as well as to offer a platform to newcomers. From September 17 to November 12, 2022, the festival in the Hellweg and Ruhr regions will present around 180 crime stars and promising new voices from around the world.

The nominees for the Viktor Crime Award 2022 at a glance

Marc Hoffmann, Born in 1972, he is a high school teacher for German and English. Not quite fully occupied by this part-time job, he has already published two novels and has been regularly performing his cabaret program „Der Klassenfeind“ since 2015, which revolves around the topic of school. In addition, he gives readings nationwide from his novels or short texts, sometimes combined with live music, which he plays solo or with his band Die Ständige Vertretung, with whom he released the album „Lieder von der unsicheren Seite“ in 2015.

Henri Faber, Born in 1986 and raised in Lower Austria, he studied Journalism and Communication Studies and now lives in Hamburg as an author and copywriter. Following his bestseller "Ausweglos," "Kaltherz" is his second thriller.

Stuart Turton is a freelance travel journalist. His debut novel, »The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle,« was an overwhelming public success in Great Britain and received, among other awards, the Costa First Novel Award 2018. The book is being published in 25 countries. Stuart Turton lives in London with his wife and daughter.
